September 16th we celebrate our so call independence.
So, today I’m going to talk about 4 things that should happen for the betterment of this country. They are easy to implement, so if Mexico really wanted, they could be on their way by the next Independence Day.
I’ll list first what I think is the easiest to apply.
1 –The Extermination of the stray dogs in Mexico.
I know it’s an unorthodox proposition, but if we look pass this, it will actually serve very important points.
First, let me ask you something, why do we kill rats?
To my understanding we kill stray rats because they spread infections, bite people and destroy the infrastructure. Certainly we don’t kill them for being tiny and some may call them ugly.
Now, what does a stray dog do?
Just like rats they spread infections trough their feces.
-Exterminating the stray dogs would give us healthier, cleaner streets, without worrying about steeping on their feces.
Just like rats they do bite people, for a poor person this can be fatal.
-Stray dogs bite people, sometimes they’re not even provoked, or the people are just trying to shoo them away from their properties.
And again just like the rats they do destroy our infrastructure.
-If it rains, Mexico City floods. The people blame the government for poor infrastructure, and the government blames the people for littering.
Why no one considers the dogs?
What is the point of putting our garbage in bags, if a stray dog will just come by and tear it apart? Where does that lose garbage goes?
It goes to our sewers. It actually contributes to their clogging.
The extermination fo these dogs would lower the frequency and intensity of the floods.
Resources for it:
Some people may think we don’t have the manpower or resources to do this, but they are wrong.
I’m not a child babbling ideas that are not feasible.
I tell you this: they are very much feasible.
Every year THOUSANDS of Mexican males turn 18, so they have to do their service.
What does their military’s service consist of? Marching…
Marching doesn’t provide anything good to our society.
Why not get 25% of those new adults and hand them machetes to kill the dogs?
The other 25% could be given booths and have them clean our parks and dying rivers, and the other 50% could be also used for services like these.
I myself, Juan Gomez, would rather do something useful for my country than march senseless for a year in order to get my service.
2- The Unification of the Public Transport in Mexico City.
In Mexico City, one can take the metro [subway], buses, or metro buses.
They all work as separate entities.
I need a card for the subway.
I need another card for the metro buses
And I need change for the buses.
Why cant I at the very least use the same card for both the subway and the metro bus? The unification of them would make moving around the city easier.
3- The destruction of the false sense of patriotism.
The emergence of a false sense of patriotism happens quite often in Mexico.
It happens when a chain like McDonalds wants to open a store at some “unspoiled” place.
The “local” restaurants protest and prevent it’s opening in the name of “what is good for the town”
But, what is good for it?
A McDonalds would represent about 20 new formal tax paying jobs.
Against 2 or 3 informal non-tax paying jobs? [Links nicely with #3]
Clean food, I know some people criticize it, but at least it has to follow health standards… So often little restaurants in Mexico use waters from the sewer.
This is no lie and is well known.
The winner: McDonalds.
Why is it that we fear progress?
Why do we feel is “Mexican” to be against those business?
We need to change that culture, either change it, or pay no heed to those protesters.
And do what is truly best for Mexico.
4- Enforce the Collection of Taxes
Not everyone knows this, but only about 11% of the Mexican population actually pays their taxes. This is absolute intolerable.
Let me give you my perspective.
Like 9 years ago, Mexico was going to build a new international airport, but the people who lived where it was going to be built protested.
The airport wasn’t built; up to this very day, we lack the new airport we so desperately need.
People who supported those people used the stupid argument that it wasn’t fair to deprive those people from their land for the sake of the 10% of the population that actually uses the Airports.
Now, why the hell no? Is it not that percentage the ones that pay taxes?
And the people affected weren’t even 00.01% of the country, so once again why did our country halted is modernization for the sake of a small group of people who doesn’t even pay taxes?
Max Weber once said that a government must have the monopoly on violence.
So Mexico should collect its taxes by ANY means.
Even if it means sending those people to labor camps.
The government has repeatedly cleared the records for the people to have a fresh start in the coming years, and even then people do not pay taxes.
I demand justice, because those people are ROBBING US.
I could buy a new TV at the end of the year if I were to keep the taxes money.
But I don’t, so why do they get to do it?
I don’t think is fair that 89% of the country gets a free ride at our expenses.
_____
I repeat, I know they are unorthodox, specially the first point, but they are very much needed.
Sadly I know that these won’t be implemented any time soon, if at all.
But I still want to share what I would do for the betterment of my country if I was commanding it.
